The short answer is no. Squiggle does not provide legal advice. In most cases, you do NOT need a lawyer to draft your will or your estate plan.

You do not require a lawyer to draft your will or estate plan.

At Squiggle, we focus purely on will writing and estate planning, and are not in the practice of providing legal advice*. As such, we are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Here's why we believe you don't need a lawyer

Many people believe that estate planning is a complicated process that requires the intervention of a lawyer. But this is not true.

Even simple estate plans drafted by lawyers can end up being expensive...and the process can often be slow, cumbersome and not very transparent.

That's why it's Squiggle's mission to provide an online platform that simplifies the entire estate planning process and makes it more transparent, secure and easily accessible for everybody.

In addition, all wills are required to meet a set of strict criteria in order to be considered legally valid - whether you decide to choose a lawyer or not. The documents are required to be drawn up in a certain format.

In many cases, you can simply draft your will online with us at Squiggle. It's a quick, simple and very secure process.

However, we do recognise that many of our clients need help with their broader estate planning strategy and that can often require us sitting together in a face-to-face meeting. In these circumstances, we'll do everything we can to understand your unique situation. We'll then present the various options open to you as well as explain what will happen when choosing each option, so that you can take the best decision for your family's circumstances.

*Although in most cases you do not require a lawyer for your estate plan, we sometimes recommend that you consult with a lawyer with regard to any occasional specific technicalities that fall outside of our remit. Under such circumstances, we're happy to refer you to one of our legal partners who we've worked with for many years.
